Last June I decided to start a little knit gift for my Papa (my mom’s dad).  I finished it maybe in August or something?  Maybe September.  Possibly October.  When I start a Christmas gift so early, I feel like I have  a g e s  to finish it.  And so I compensate by taking  a g e s  to finish it.

It’s a long, cozy cabled scarf.  As in, it’s basically all cables.  I don’t know what I was thinking.  This scarf felt endless.  Ha!  But once I got about 2/3rds done, the cables sort of felt like no big deal.  A project like this is definitely a great way to tackle cables if you’re afraid of them.  It’s all or nothing.

I did find that it is easier for me to cable with a double pointed needle instead of a cable needle.  Just in case you were wondering.  As I’m sure you all were.

I’ve said it before, but I LOVE making presents for loved ones.  Especially ones like this that take a good amount of time.  It just feels like such a tangible expression of love.  Sometimes I think about the one I’m creating for and pray little prayers for them while I’m knitting.  It’s just an overall fun experience.

Isn’t my Papa handsome?  I’m sorry to all my other family members, but I’m pretty sure that Papa is my favorite.  I want to be just like him.  He is one of the most genuine, loving, smart, and God-fearing men that I know.

I think I want to make him a billion scarves.  Ha!

If you’re interested in more details of the scarf, or would like the pattern, you can just go to my Ravelry page.  I’ve started uploading my knitting projects over there, and it’s a great way to stay organized!

All in all, I loved this pattern and would definitely recommend it to someone who wanted to just jump in to cables.  Or someone who is already a pro at cables.  Or someone who hasn’t learned how to knit yet.  We can arrange some lessons. ;)

This looks nice and cozy!!! I’ve made a few cable-y things like a coffee cozy and a braided cable bracelet using a cable needle, it never occurred to me to use a dpn but it makes total sense. Thanks for sharing that tid-bit. And I, like you, absolutely love making presents for loved ones. I’m loving your blog! (p.s that sweater/top you’re wearing in the pic is super cute.)

Thank you so much! I love when you can get tips from other crafters. I walked into a knit shop for the first time the other day and there was a whole bunch of older ladies gathered around a table knitting together – I wanted to hang out and learn all their tips!
