Challenge Accepted
Pretty much all of the blogs I read are writing New Year’s resolutions posts and making their goals for 2013 public. Or, if they aren’t, they are those people who laugh in the face of the resolution list. They say it’s no use to decide they are going to eat healthier when they just keep pinning recipes for Nutella-stuffed cookies. Those people probably are the same lovely folks who say Valentines Day is a sham because we should show our love year around.
Humph.
This new year kind of caught me off guard. Usually I’m the queen of lists and goals and plans and dreams. This year I just didn’t come up with a whole bunch of resolutions. Timothy and I kind of had our “new year” a few weeks ago. We had a big heart to heart talk about our marriage and what we want it to look like. We made plans and goals and dreams and have been praying about them nightly together. Then New Year’s Day came and I was all, do I *have* to come up with more things to work on? Sheesh. Ha!
But then the other day on Twitter I came across a link to this blog post by Beth Moore. It’s basically a challenge to memorize two scriptures a month for 2013. These ladies get pretty intense – you can buy a special notebook and probably t-shirts as well. Ha! But I love the idea. You go to her blog on the 1st and 15th of every month and check in with what scripture you have decided to memorize. Thousands of ladies are a part of this “team” and it is so encouraging to read through the verses that everyone has picked to memorize.
When I read about the challenge, I was immediately convicted. Currently, I have no plan in place whatsoever to memorize scriptures. As soon as I graduated out of Sunday School and stopped having a weekly memory verse given to me by a teacher, I just kind of fizzled out. Maybe I should talk to my Pastor about having his own treat bucket for when adults memorize weekly verses. Oh, I kid.
But seriously, Beth has convinced me. And I’m going to need all the accountability I can get. I’m a pro at starting things like this, and not so good at following them through. Like reading the Bible through. I feel like God put the book of Leviticus in there just to trip me up every year. So each year I start back up at the beginning – Genesis and I are really good friends.
So I am joining the team, accepting the challenge, and I was wondering if any of you would like to be a part, too. It’s not too late to sign up for the January 1st challenge. Can you imagine how your life will be impacted by the diligence and effort you put into burying His Word in your heart? I’m pumped.
The first verse I am picking to memorize in 2013 is Psalms 84:11.
Oh, I love that one.
So what about you all? Have any of you already heard of this program? Or do you have your own method for scripture memorization? Would you like to join with me in this challenge? If you’re going to be a part, what is your first scripture? I’d love to hear.

I am right there with you on reading the Bible through in a year! But this year I WILL get past Leviticus!

Psalm 32:7 ~ Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.
Love that one!
