My mom knows how to do almost every craft under the sun.  Every craft, that is, except knitting.  She’s been wanting to learn, but is always knee deep in some other project.  So for her birthday, I bought her some knitting supplies and promised unlimited knitting lessons.

Yes, it felt totally weird to offer to teach my mom a craft.  It’s like offering to teach Albert Einstein biology.  Why even bother?  He can figure it out.  But I knew my mom needed just a little boost.

And what do you know … she figured it out in two seconds and LOVED it!  She practiced a bit knitting flat and then started her first knitting project – a gorgeous cowl knit in the round.  Like I said, Albert Einstein.

We’ve already planned all our future knitting sessions.  She makes the best coffee, the best chili, and has a fireplace.  Score.  Fall is going to rock out.

And speaking of fall and crafts and such (smooth transition, right?), I just found out about something seriously amazing.

Craftyminx is teaching everyone how to crochet!  Starting October 1st, she will be posting lessons on all the crochet basics.  And the best part?  Its for freeeeeeeeeeee!

I’ve seen all kinds of e-courses that I’ve drooled over, but most of them cost just a little more than I’m willing to spend.  Considering how much of a crochet pro Craftyminx is (check out her granny square a day project!), it’s pretty sweet that she’s offering this up to everyone who wants it.

I have crocheted a few things but still feel pretty clueless, so I plan to follow along with all these lessons.  What about you guys?  Anyone interested in crafting it up this fall?

‘Yay!’ for knitting! And ‘yay’ for beautiful antique teal hand-knitted cowls! And most of all, ‘yay!’ for wonderful daughters who teach their mothers how to knit. I had a wonderful day with you. I love you!

PS I can’t wait for you to see the toe loop I knitted into my cowl. Yes, it’s pretty sweet.
