Shortly after we signed the purchase agreement for our house, we went on a date day to celebrate.  We weren’t only celebrating our future new home, but simply life in general.  It was Labor Day weekend, fall was coming, we were healthy and assured that we were where God wanted us to be.  You just can’t beat that feeling.

We went to lunch and then walked through the mall, holding hands and swinging our arms, smiling at anyone who glanced our way.  I felt like happiness was just oozing.

We passed by Bath and Body Works and I immediately made Timothy stop.  One, they were having a huge sale.  Two, THAT SMELL.  I mean, do they stick huge vats of scented oils in their air vents and sit back and watch as people come in, drawn like moths to a flame?  So many smells, and I always want them all.

So Timothy and I decided to make our first home purchase – buy one get one free fall candles.  Holy guacamole.  It was the best moment ever.  Timothy was the dutiful husband as he followed me around while I smelled everything and stuffed our shopping bag full of candles.  We probably spent twenty minutes in that store alone smelling everything to narrow it down to our favorites.

With each candle I tried to picture it in our new kitchen, or on the coffee table in the living room.  I could just close my eyes and see all the dreams and happiness.  Is this what our new house will smell like?

Every now and then I sniff the candles, praying that that silly closing date will hurry up and get here!  I’m ready to make that empty house a home.
