Boom.  Crocheting in the big leagues.  Ha!

But for real, this was such a fun project!  I started it back in, oh July.  I would have been blogging about it, but it was a surprise for my dear sweet mom.

I spent months searching for the perfect afghan pattern and deciding on colors.  I sneakily talked to my mom about her current and future decorating plans and ended up choosing to go with a linen, brownish-gray, and teal-y blue color.  I thought I could make something cute with the extra yarn, but I quickly realized that afghans are a totally different ball game.  They love them some yarn.  I went back to the store several times to get more yarn.

My first afghan chain!  So exciting.  I used a trick my Mom taught me and chained until I reached the count, and then I just chained some more.  I didn’t worry about double checking to make sure it was perfect –  I just weaved in the extra chain after my first row.  Sooo much easier.

When I was still on the first few rows, I could crochet in the car – my favorite crafting spot.  But it quickly got super bulky and hot.  Which was fun in July.

I finished it … a few days before Christmas.  It was kind of an ongoing project to work on in between working on other projects.  I’m not a pro at crochet by any means, but this afghan still went pretty smoothly.  I had a hard time on the first row, but it got better after that.  I’m really happy with how it turned out!  I think my mom liked it too.

The pattern is called “Shell and Post Stitch Ripple Afghan.”  Fancy name, I know.  You can find the Ravelry link to the pattern here.

I’m pretty sure I want to keep making afghans forever.  Or knit a blanket.  Oh my.  What about you crocheters out there?  Have any of you made any afghans recently?  What are some of your favorite patterns?
