The other day I took my brother on some errands and persuaded him to go into Goodwill with me.  On the way in he said, “You know, most people think Goodwill is for poor people.  But they have really expensive stuff too.”  Ha!  Nice, D.  Nice.

Goodwill always makes me smile.  I haven’t always had an appreciation for it, but now I’m hooked.  Not only is it great for us “poor” folks, but you seriously find the craziest stuff there.  So when we went in, I decided to take some pictures to document a regular Goodwill trip.

First off, we have this crazy cool register thing.  If I had the extra $15, I would have swiped it up in a heartbeat.  The colors, the lines, the everything.  Who would ever give this away to Goodwill?

Speaking of which, Mom, I saw something that you used to own in Goodwill.  I’ll give you a hint: it used to sit on your piano.  And they’re selling it for $30!?!?!  Crazy!

Here’s a nice little something.  It was made out of some kind of plastic.  And it was painted to look like someone had cross-stitched the words “handmade” on there.  Umm, false advertising?  And what in the world would you do with this hanging anyway?

Be still my heart.  A bright orange suitcase!!!  I about died, yet I didn’t get it.  Major sad face.  Our guest room closet is piled high with vintage suitcases I have picked up at Goodwill and have no place for.  This guy deserves someone who can love and use him.

This particular Goodwill store always haunts me with suitcases.  Always!  I own that red one’s little brother.  I bought him months ago and he’s currently hanging out in the guest room closet.  I have big dreams for him.

Would anyone like a life size bust of a Native American chief child with eagle talons coming out of its neck?  No?

This guy made up for the creepy Indian head.  Look at him!  So, so cute.  I want to spray paint him bright pink and put him in my book shelf.  But I had to pass on him because …

I bought this little guy!!!  Yeah, I’m not even joking.  He was only $1 and he was calling out to me.  Look at his sad eyes.  He’s just a little owl that no one loves.

I’m going to spray paint him bright yellow and put him in my book shelf instead.  Done deal.  My brother finally worked up the courage to tell me that he thinks it’s a terrible idea as we were walking out the store.  Oh ye of little faith.

I’m going to leave you with this picture.  That would be a velour couch.  With orange flowers.  And a barn.  And barrels.  And a water mill.  A matching chair was sitting next to it, but I didn’t think my camera could handle all of that goodness in one picture.

So there’s a Goodwill trip.  A little bit of good, a little of weird, a little of intriguing, and a lot of fun.

Have any of you guys had a Goodwill adventure recently?

I love Goodwill! I get a lot of good clothes there. I don’t look in the “housewares” section as much, since it kind of gets overwhelming for me… I’d fill all the cabinets in our house with cool glassware, if I could. My favorite thing you found is the “handmade” banner… I’d buy it for the hilarity!

Hey Charlotte! I’m the complete opposite. The clothes section overwhelms me! I’m afraid I’m going to fill my cart with weird looking clothes that I plan to “makeover.” Ha! But I am with you on the glassware. Sometimes I have to avoid that section for the sake of my wallet.

I love the little porcelain dog. It is a West Highland Terrier (I own one) and I have fallen head over heals for this breed. Look them up! They rock!

Whit! You should’ve picked up the little dog! How cute…..it reminds me of Sherry on YHL :) I love and miss you girl.

I thought the same thing! That’s the reason I didn’t buy it – I was afraid that with the purchase of one white porcelain animal, I’d turn into her. And want to fill our itty bitty house with white porcelain animals! :D

I love you too! Hope you and your family are doing well!

OMGosh!! My grandmother owned that same couch! I still remember as a child going to her house and just looking at it, counting what all was in that picture on the couch!! What a find!!

My grandma (who just passed away last month) had a couch, love seat and a matching chair. Thanks for posting the pic…it made me smile.
