I had plans of writing my second “memory verse” of 2013 all fancy like on our chalkboard wall in our kitchen.  But the problem is that I still haven’t painted the chalkboard wall.  Or bought the chalkboard paint.  So today I give you craft paper and a pen.  And this really cute material I got last spring to make a really cute pencil skirt.  Which hasn’t happened either.

Timothy loves all my plans.

But moving on.  On January 1st I joined this scripture memory thing and my first verse was Psalms 84:11.  I’m not trying to be super dramatic, but this challenge is changing my world.  There, not too dramatic.

I would catch that verse just flitting into my head at the most random of times.  And even though it was only one pretty straightforward Bible verse, I felt like God kept opening my eyes to it and showing me different things about it.  I am so excited about doing this for the rest of the year.

For my second verse I’m memorizing Romans 12:2. “And be not conformed to this world:  but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.”

What a powerful statement.  I think everyone can use a little transformation and renewal in their lives.  Usually I think of those words in terms of rescue.  Like God is ready at any moment to take your broken pieces and transform you into what He envisions for you.  But I think they are also powerful words to apply to your life when everything is going great.

God has really blessed Timothy and I these past few months.  And sometimes I get so caught up in just being happy and going about my day that I lose sight of the fact that I need to consistently be intentional in my walk with God.  It’s so easy to slip when things are great.  But I want to keep my heart broken and humble so that at any moment God can show me the things that are pulling me away from Him.  I want to be transformed.  Daily.

Last time we talked about this, I was really excited to see that some of you are joining or have already joined this challenge!  The other day while Facebook stalking browsing I saw a friend that has committed to putting up a new scripture in her office each week.  I loved that idea!  I may hang up my little piece of craft paper somewhere.  I mean, I haven’t hung up any art on the walls in our house yet.  A piece of craft paper taped to the walls may class the place up a bit.  Ha!

    Hi Whitney,
I don’t really remember how I came across your blog but I’ve been reading you for a while now and I really enjoy it. I love how you talk about your life, marriage and crafts. Keep up the good work and I’m looking forward to see you decorate your new home!

You did that with a pen? I couldn’t have got it to look so good with a computer!!

No way I could pen anything that lovely. I use dry erase markers to write scripture on the refrigerator. Classy :) Yet effective. Love you.

Oooo, good idea! Beth Moore, who came up with this challenge, talked about writing her scriptures on post-it notes and sticking them on the bathroom mirror so her husband and kids would get the hint. Ha! That cracked me up.

How about making a project out of it. cross stich the verses. 1. you will memorize the verse because you constantly have to look at it via the pattern, and 2. you will have a sense of accomplishment in knowing that you memorized the verse, and completed a project that you can be proud of and can frame and hang on the wall.!!!
you can use the pattern I gave you and instead of putting October and the saying for the month, put the Bible verse or you can get a pattern book of different pictures or make up your own.(just an idea, lol.)
